Real time is the best thing since sliced bread, but where are my archives?

This issue is fast turning into one of my pet peeves, hence the following rant.

Dear Facebook and Twitter,

I’m a active member of your sites. So active (productive even) in fact, that I have thousands of Tweets, likes, shared items, comments, you name it. I’m doing exactly what you want and need me to do. So why won’t you let me access them?!?!?! *pulls hair out*

Why is it, Facebook, that I can’t search my past activity? Why is it you won’t let me search wall posts I’ve received? Why is it there is nowhere I can go to view the comments I’ve made?
And Twitter, you’re no better. Thanks to you, I’ve had to resort to ‘favouriting’ my own tweets so I can find them when I need them.

(I mean, seriously, how insane is that?! Not to mention it makes me look like a complete egomaniac… *tsk*)

This might seem like a trivial issue to some, but there is a lot of information exchanged in micro-exchanges on both these services. Information directly related to and useful to me. And every once in a while, I need access to this information. It would be great to be able to perform a simple search and get the information I’m looking for. And I don’t understand why I can’t already do just that.

Living in the moment is great, but I would like the ability to wander down memory lane too.

Wasssssup Twitter? *grin*

November 24th, 2009 § 0 comments § permalink

It started off with me commenting on Twitter’s change in terminology –

So Twitter is now asking ‘What’s happening?’ eh? Why not just ‘Wasssssup?’

RohanM saw that, and less than half an hour later, he had a greasemonkey script up and running!

Which I promptly installed of course! It changes your Twitter home to this:

Wasssssup Twitter!

How cool is that?!
I don’t actually go to the Twitter site much, so I tend to forget I have the script installed. Which is great, cos I get a good chuckle every time I see it. heheheh Love this hackery thingy! Thanks Rohan! 😀

Go on, head on over to Rohan’s blog and get the script! Ya know ya want it 😉

Blogging is about confidence

November 23rd, 2009 § 2 comments § permalink

So there’s still something holding me back from picking this up full time. It’s not a lack of time. Not content either. Writer’s block I can deal with, no worries. What then?

I’ve been giving this A LOT of thought over the past few weeks, digging into the reasons I’ve been holding back. It hit me that I had the same issue when I first started Tangling, when I first started Tweeting, when I first started blogging for Tangler, heck, when I first started sharing on Google Reader! It’s about confidence. And the only way to get that is to apply oneself to the task one isn’t confident about. (‘Cept to tackle the task, one needs to deal with the confidence thing…. you see where this is going…)

Side note: How come no one told me this before?! Eh??

Well then, since the issue has been pinpointed, it can be resolved. First blog post written. Next one is already in draft. Vicious cycle begone!

Muahahahaha
</evil laugh>

In the meantime, any tips for this n00b? 🙂

House of Reps passes bill. Oh yay

November 10th, 2009 § 0 comments § permalink

Those following the US health care drama will know that the bill has been passed by the House of Representatives.
This is good. After months of hysteria, there’s been progress.

Then why the tone in the title? Read this in a BBC article:

However, the government-run healthcare programme – the so-called “public option” – was scaled back in the run-up to the vote.

One key concession to get the bill through was to anti-abortion legislators.

An amendment was passed that prohibits coverage for abortion in the government-run programme except for rape, incest or if the mother’s life is threatened. Private plans can still offer the cover.

Health care for everyone. ‘Cept you, whose morals don’t fit with ours.

Out of hibernation

November 2nd, 2009 § 0 comments § permalink

Well, more of a completely comatose period, but let’s carry on.

Howdy!
Here I am! Finally blogging for myself, first post on a blog I initially initiated close to THREE years ago. Holy crap, time flies. (Still remember the thrill of finding out dekrazee1.com was available. Wheeee!)

Three years… In that time, I’ve written countless posts in my head, hashing out issues, making observations, the works! They’ve never made it out. Maybe it was the half-dozen other avenues available for throwing stuff out there – Twitter, my Tangle, Facebook, Twitter, Twitter…. Maybe I got too bogged down with the idea of blogging. Not the writing part, more the ’10 things you HAVE to do before launching your blog’ type of pressure. Get the right theme – presentation is key; have a point; find direction; post regularly, know your purpose…. Arrrrggghhh! *pulls hair out*

And then some days ago it suddenly hit me. Why wasn’t I doing what I know best?? Treat the blog like a startup! Release early, reiterate often!

All my perceived pressures just melted away. I went and found a theme (there aren’t as many out there as I thought :(), got a title, and blast off!

So yesh, I have no idea where this is headed, it still looks pretty bad, and I can’t even begin to think of a blog description. But I have a url, a dashboard, a title – which will probably change – and most importantly, a place to find my voice. The rest will happen as they happen. Only rule: keep writing.

Oh, and I’m gonna leave that first default post there as a reminder. That’ll learn dek! 😉

Where am I?
